Inventory Discrepancies

Jump to: navigation, search

During inventory reconciliation or examination, occasional discrepancies of the amount of inventory can occur. These discrepancies can be due to either incorrect transactions or counting. It is important to take into account that the inventory is always rotating due to shipments and orders; therefore, batches are only brief snapshots of where the inventory levels should be at a specific time. Physical counts are detailed images of the amounts of inventory; however, counts are subject to human error. When working through the discrepancies, keep in mind that it is possible for multiple discrepancies for the same items to take place.
